The suspect Rajoori Vikram met the victim on the matrimonial website shaadi.com, where he introduced himself with a fake name Arjun Chandra. Then, he allegedly shared pictures of noted Indian scientist Swati Piramal and claimed it was his mother.
He also shared Indian model Sujo Mathews’ picture as his picture with the victim. Later, he collected money from the victim saying it was for his mother’s medical expenses. “He had recently come to the city to visit his family and was returning to the US. Based on a tip off from immigration authorities, he was nabbed at the airport,” said DCP G Janaki Sharmila.
Police then found out that Vikram, an engineering graduate, had gone to USA for work and was already married with one Soundarya. The couple was living in Dallas and were facing financial problems. As a result, Vikram was out looking for ways to make easy money. Taking advantage of the craze for US-settled grooms, he planned to prey on gullible women.
