GOAT Box Office Day 1: Vijay's Film Shatters Records With Rs 55 Crore Opening
The GOAT, had a record-breaking opening day at the Tamil box office, earning an estimated Rs 55 crore across India.

Thalapathy Vijay's highly anticipated film, The GOAT, had a record-breaking opening day at the Tamil box office, earning an estimated Rs 55 crore across India. This marks the biggest Tamil opener ever and makes it the third Vijay film and the fifth overall from Kollywood to surpass the Rs 50 crore mark on its debut.
In Tamil Nadu, the film has already grossed more than ₹30 crore, with final earnings anticipated to fall between ₹32-35 crore. This places The GOAT alongside Vijay’s other major openers like Sarkar, Beast, and Leo. It may even surpass the first-day record of Beast, which stands at Rs 35 crore, pending final numbers. Previously, Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 held the record for the biggest Tamil film opening of 2024 with Rs 26 crore net in India.
The film’s success underscores Vijay’s dominance at the Tamil Nadu box office. Unlike Leo, which benefited from being part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), The GOAT relies solely on Vijay’s star power without a popular IP or standout musical score.
Outside Tamil Nadu, the film performed well in Karnataka with over Rs 9 crore and Kerala with Rs 6 crore. However, it saw a weaker response in the Telugu states, possibly due to the film's music not resonating with audiences there. Despite this, The GOAT has achieved strong results in its core markets of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Bengaluru.
