Tamil superstar Suriya’s latest film Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj and starring Pooja Hegde as the female lead, has made a notable impact on its release day.  After the disappointment of Kanguva, Suriya sought a powerful return with Retro, which he co-produced with Jyothika under their 2D Entertainments banner. The film was released worldwide on May 1 with high expectations.

In Telugu, Retro was released by Sithara Entertainments and producer Nagavamsi. The film received a mixed reception in both its Tamil and Telugu versions. Despite that, the Day 1 collections have been impressive, especially in Tamil Nadu, where the film reportedly collected ₹17.75 crores. This marks the highest opening day collection of Suriya’s career at regular ticket pricing.

Additionally, Retro earned ₹2.28 crores in Karnataka, ₹1.63 crores across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and ₹2.23 crores in Kerala. With such a solid start, and despite competition from Hit 3, the movie is poised to do well over the weekend.
