Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan and directed by Mani Ratnam, opened to high expectations but collected only Rs 18 crore on day one. With a hefty budget of Rs 220 crore, a star-studded cast, and extensive promotions, the film still failed to meet expectations.

Compared to Indian 2’s Rs 25 crore, Thug Life earned Rs 15.4 crore in Tamil Nadu, Rs 1.5 crore in Telugu, and over Rs 1 crore overseas. It wasn’t released in Karnataka and had minimal impact in other regions.

Critics pointed out slow pacing, weak music, and underused roles. Only the interval twist and climax were praised, showing the strong effect of early reviews.
