Ustad Bhagat Singh US box office collections Pawan Kalyan film
Hyderabad: The much-anticipated film Ustad Bhagat Singh, starring Pawan Kalyan and directed by Harish Shankar, has turned out to be a major disappointment at the box office, particularly in overseas markets.
Released on March 19, the film failed to meet expectations despite benefiting from festive releases during Ugadi and Ramzan. While the movie managed to gross approximately Rs 100 crore worldwide within nine days, its performance has been deemed underwhelming given the scale and hype surrounding the project.
According to trade tracking platform Saknilk, the film recorded a net collection of Rs 68.06 crore. However, its overseas performance, especially in North America, has raised concerns within the trade community.
In the United States, the film has reportedly collected only around Rs 6 crore so far, falling significantly short of expectations. Trade analysts indicate that the film would require at least Rs 7 crore more to reach a break-even point in the region. Notably, Ustad Bhagat Singh has failed to cross the crucial $1 million benchmark, a key indicator of success for Telugu films in overseas markets.
The situation worsened on Friday, when the film managed to earn merely $4,000 (approximately Rs 3.79 lakh) in the US, reflecting a steep decline in audience turnout. As a result, the film has been withdrawn from several theatres, further impacting its revenue potential.
Distributors are now bracing for substantial losses, while fans have taken to social media to express disappointment. Director Harish Shankar, in particular, has faced criticism and trolling for not meeting expectations.
Meanwhile, another film, Dhurandhar-2, has been performing strongly in the US market, reportedly collecting around Rs 275 crore, highlighting the stark contrast in box office performance.
