Babita Phogat Reveals Dangal Story Rights Deal
Babita Phogat has revealed that Aamir Khan’s team initially wanted to remove her name from the blockbuster film Dangal, which tells the story of her and her sister Geeta.

Despite the film grossing over Rs 2070 crore globally, the Phogat family received only Rs 1 crore for selling their story rights to Aamir Khan Productions, UTV Motion Pictures, and Walt Disney Pictures India.
In a recent interview, Babita explained that Nitesh Tiwari's team initially approached them about making a documentary around 2010. However, this later evolved into a feature film. When discussing her compensation, Babita expressed disappointment, stating, "I got very less money." She revealed that after the script was written, there were discussions about changing her character’s name, which her father opposed, insisting on using their real names.
After the film's success, Babita's father reached out to Aamir’s team for assistance in opening a wrestling academy in Haryana, a request that went unanswered despite the academy costing approximately Rs 5-6 crore to establish.
