Bharat Dev Varma, aged 83, husband of actress Moon Moon Sen, passed away on November 19 at their residence in Kolkata.A member of the former royal family of Tripura, he was the son of Ila Devi, the princess of Cooch Behar, and the elder brother of Gayatri Devi, the Maharani of Jaipur. Reports suggest he had been feeling unwell earlier in the day and an ambulance was summoned, but he passed away before it could arrive. The news of his passing has left the film industry in shock.

West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee mourned Bharat Dev Varma's death and shared her heartfelt tribute on X, writing, "I am deeply saddened by the passing of Bharat Dev Varma, the husband of Moon Moon Sen and a great supporter of mine. He was always affectionate, and his loss is a profound one for me." She added, "After receiving the news this morning, I visited their Ballygunge home where their daughter Riya was present. Moon Moon and Raima are on their way from Delhi, and I paid my respects to the departed and expressed my condolences to the family."

Moon Moon Sen and Bharat Dev Varma married in 1978 and had two daughters, Raima and Riya Sen, who are both actresses in the film industry. Moon Moon Sen began her acting career with the film Andar Bayar in 1984 and has since acted in over 60 films and 40 television series.
