Veteran Bollywood Actress Kamini Kaushal Dies at 98

Lahore, Punjab, India: Renowned Bollywood actress Kamini Kaushal, who had a remarkable career in Hindi cinema spanning almost seven decades, has passed away at the age of 98. She began her journey as a leading lady from 1946 to 1963 and later transitioned into character roles.

Kamini Kaushal appeared in notable films such as Do Bhai, Shaheed, Nadiya Ke Paar, Ziddi, Shabnam, Paras, Model, Arzoo, Zanjir, Abru, Bade Sarkar, Jailor, Nightclub, and Godan. She also gained recognition for her roles in more recent films, including playing the grandmother in the Telugu movie Arjun Reddy, which starred Shahid Kapoor, and a guest role alongside Aamir Khan in Laal Singh Chaddha.

Born Uma Kaushal on February 24, 1927, in Lahore into a well-educated family, she adopted the screen name Kamini when she debuted in the 1946 film Neecha Nagar, directed by Chetan Anand. Throughout her career, she earned several awards and was known for choosing roles that highlighted her acting prowess rather than focusing on sensationalism.

Her passing has been mourned by numerous Bollywood celebrities who remembered her significant contributions to Indian cinema.
