Ranveer Singh Kantara controversy
Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has issued an unconditional apology following controversy surrounding his alleged remarks related to the film Kantara. The actor is set to file an affidavit before the Karnataka High Court on April 10.
The controversy emerged after an FIR was registered against him for reportedly hurting the sentiments of Kannada people by mimicking sounds associated with a scene from the film. In response, Ranveer Singh approached the Karnataka High Court seeking relief. During the hearing, the court made strong observations regarding the matter.
Petitioners argued that Bhoota Kola is not merely a performance but a sacred ritual deeply revered by millions in South Karnataka. They urged the court to take strict action, stating that such traditions should not be trivialised for entertainment purposes.
The High Court emphasised that artistic freedom should not come at the cost of insulting cultural and religious sentiments. It further stated that public figures have a constitutional responsibility to respect regional traditions and values.
The court has sought clarification from Ranveer Singh, and further hearings will continue after reviewing his response. The case is expected to set an important precedent on how celebrities address culturally sensitive subjects in the future.
