Mayasabha Teaser Out: Tumbbad Director Brings New Mystery Drama for 2026

When Tumbbad first hit theatres in 2018, it didn’t gain major attention. However, the film’s 2024 re-release changed its fate entirely, earning far more than before and becoming one of the most successful re-released films in Bollywood. This renewed success brought the spotlight back on its creator.

Now, eight years after Tumbbad, filmmaker Rahi Anil Barve is returning with his next venture. His second feature film, titled Mayasabha, features Jaaved Jaaferi in the lead. Although the movie was completed years ago, it remained stuck without a release for a long time.

After nearly six to seven years on hold, Mayasabha is finally set for a theatrical launch on January 16, 2026. Barve had earlier unveiled a poster, describing the film as an unusual experiment and hinting at a mysterious world connected to a character named Parmeshwar Khanna.

The teaser, along with the release date, has now been revealed. During an interview, Jaaved Jaaferi shed some light on his role. He portrays a film producer known for introducing several fresh talents, including a woman he loved and married—who eventually ran off with another actor.

After losing both his wealth and faith in people, the producer is left with just one asset: an old, deserted theatre buried under dust and silence. His life becomes extremely strange as he develops a fear of mosquitoes, uses smoke machines constantly, wears masks, and follows an unusual lifestyle.

He also has a 14-year-old son whose behaviour is affected by growing up in this unsettling environment. One day, the boy brings two strangers into the abandoned cinema hall, and the story unfolds around the interactions and tensions between these four individuals inside that haunting space.

Jaaved Jaaferi praised the writing, calling it one of the finest scripts he has ever read. With a cast that includes Jaaved Jaaferi, Veena Jamkar, Deepak Damle, and Mohd. Samad, expectations for Mayasabha are high, especially after Barve’s remarkable work on Tumbbad.
