Hindi film Laapataa Ladies is out of the Oscars race. The movie, which was India’s official entry for the Best International Feature category at the 97th Academy Awards, did not make it to the final shortlist. Directed by Kiran Rao, the film failed to secure a spot in the Oscars shortlist. From a list of 15 shortlisted films, five will be selected for the final race. On Wednesday, the Academy announced the 15 shortlisted films. While Laapataa Ladies did not make it, a film titled Santosh by Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri has secured a place in the shortlist.

The film Santosh features Indian stars Shahana Goswami and Sunita Rajwar. However, this film is representing the UK at the Oscars. Alongside Santosh, other shortlisted films include Emilia Perez (France), I Am Still Here (Brazil), Universal Language (Canada), Waves (Czech Republic), The Girl with the Needle (Denmark), and The Seed of the Sacred Fig (Germany).

Additionally, films like Touch (Iceland), Niqaab (Ireland), Vermiglio (Italy), Flow (Latvia), Armand (Norway), From Ground Zero (Palestine), Dahomey (Senegal), and How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies (Thailand) are competing in the International Feature category.The official Oscar nominations are set to be revealed on January 17.
