Ranveer Singh Apologises After His Comments on Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Spark Outrage

Ranveer recently participated in the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2025) held in Goa. While praising Rishab Shetty’s acting, he mentioned that Rishab’s portrayal in Kantara was exceptional. Ranveer jokingly added that in the film he would have played the role of Rishab Shetty’s sister Chaundi as a female spirit, and commented that the scenes where the ghost takes over the hero’s character were impressive. He also playfully asked whether he should be cast in Kantara 3, telling fans to check with Rishab. Rishab Shetty laughed at the comment, but the reaction among Kannadigas was far from positive.

Many Kannada fans felt offended and demanded that Ranveer issue a public apology, as they believed his comparison was inappropriate. Rishab Shetty, however, chose not to comment on the incident.

As the criticism continued to grow, Ranveer Singh responded with a statement on Instagram, clarifying his intentions. He wrote that he genuinely considers Rishab Shetty a remarkable actor and respects the effort required to perform such intense scenes. He emphasized that he has always valued the diverse cultures and traditions of India. Ranveer apologized sincerely, stating that he never intended to hurt anyone’s feelings.
