Emergency movie ban in Telangana
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has promised Sikh community leaders that the state government will contemplate banning the release of Kangana Ranaut's upcoming film "Emergency," pending legal consultation, according to government adviser Mohammad Ali Shabbir.
A delegation from the Telangana Sikh Society, headed by former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, met Shabbir at the Secretariat and requested a ban on the film's screening.
The 18-member delegation presented a formal representation expressing strong concerns about the film's portrayal of the Sikh community, Shabbir stated in a release on Thursday.
The delegation argues that the film portrays Sikhs as terrorists and anti-nationals, a depiction they deem "offensive" and damaging to the community's image, as stated in the release.
Shabbir has urged the chief minister to consider a ban on the film in Telangana. Following the meeting with Reddy, Shabbir reported that the chief minister has indicated that a decision will be made after seeking legal advice.
