Waack Girls: Sooni Taraporevala's New Dance Drama Series to Stream on Prime Video

"Waack Girls," a fresh drama series crafted and helmed by Padma Shri awardee Sooni Taraporevala, is set to premiere on Prime Video. The show, blending comedy, drama, music, and dance, introduces a fresh cast including Mekhola Bose, Anasua Chowdhury, Rytasha Rathore, Chrisann Pereira, Priyam Saha, Ruby Sah, Achintya Bose, alongside The series also stars seasoned actors Barun Chanda, Lillete Dubey, and the late Nitesh Pandey in key roles.The nine-episode series is scheduled to stream starting November 22.

Set against the colorful backdrop of Kolkata, the series tells the story of six young women who unapologetically express their individuality by forming a dance group centered around the lesser-known style of waacking. The group, named 'Waack Girls,' is led by Ishani (Mekhola Bose), a skilled waacker and choreographer, and Lopa (Rytasha Rathore), the group's enthusiastic and resourceful manager. The series delves into their personal lives and the challenges they face both in dance and in dealing with societal and family expectations.

Creator Sooni Taraporevala expressed her enthusiasm for the series, saying, "I was captivated by waacking when I first watched Mekhola Bose dance, even before I knew what it was called."She added that the show is both unconventional and fun, highlighting that the unique struggles of each of the six girls will resonate with the viewers.
