Kannada actress Ranya Rao has been arrested for smuggling gold. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials detained her for illegally bringing gold. Around 15 kg of gold, which she smuggled from Dubai, was seized at Bengaluru Airport by DRI officials.

Authorities had kept a close watch on Ranya as she was frequently traveling to Dubai. Within 15 days, she visited Dubai four times and was found hiding gold biscuits inside her clothes, according to DRI officials. She was arrested at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport upon her return from Dubai on an Emirates flight.

Ranya Rao is the daughter of a Karnataka DGP-rank IPS officer. Officials have registered a case and are investigating who else is involved in the gold smuggling operation. Ranya, who acted in the Kannada film Manikya alongside superstar Sudeep, has been taken to the DRI headquarters in Bengaluru for further interrogation.
