Kannada actress Ranya Rao has been sentenced to one year in jail by a Bengaluru court in a gold smuggling case. Although initially granted conditional bail, she remains in custody. Her mother’s appeal to the Karnataka High Court also failed, and the court upheld the sentence under the Foreign Exchange Protection and Smuggling Activities (Kafifosa) Act.

Ranya was caught in March at Bengaluru Airport with 14.7 kg of gold smuggled from Dubai. The DRI arrested her, and the ED later filed a case under the PMLA.

Despite default bail due to DRI’s procedural lapses, she wasn't released under the Kafifosa Act. 

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has seized assets valued at more than ₹34 crore as part of an ongoing investigation, marking a significant move in the financial probe.
