The hit 2024 Malayalam romantic comedy Premalu, starring Naslen K. Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju, charmed audiences with a heartfelt tale exploring love, personal growth, and the sting of rejection. Fans eagerly awaiting Premalu 2 will have to wait longer, as producer Dileesh Pothan confirmed the sequel is currently on hold.

Speaking to The Cue, Pothan revealed that their next project will be a different film directed by Girish AD, not Premalu 2, and that there’s no set timeline for the sequel's production.

Premalu told the story of Sachin, an engineering graduate whose life takes a new turn in Hyderabad, where he falls for Reenu Roy, only to face rejection before love blooms unexpectedly.

Beyond the central characters, the film was elevated by standout portrayals from Sangeeth Prathap, Akhila Bhargavan, Meenakshi Raveendran, and a strong supporting ensemble that added depth and charm to the narrative. It was directed by Girish AD and backed by producers Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan, and Shyam Pushkaran.
