Mohanlal's Empuraan Faces Cyber Attacks Amid Controversy
Mohanlal’s latest film Empuraan, the sequel to Lucifer (2019), has received a positive response and is performing well at the box office. However, the film has sparked controversy, with the Sangh Parivar alleging that it insults the central government and spreads misinformation. Mohanlal has already expressed his concern over the backlash, as he faces heavy criticism and online trolling. Supreme Court lawyer Subhash Thikaddan has now filed a complaint against the cyber attacks on Mohanlal and others, submitting the petition to the DGP, who has assured immediate action.
Following the controversy, officials have announced that certain scenes in the film will be modified. Changes will be made to scenes related to the Gujarat riots and those depicting national agencies targeting individuals opposed to the government. Additionally, the villain character Baba Bajrangi is being renamed. The revised version of the film will be released in theaters starting Thursday.
Despite the controversies, Empuraan continues to break records, entering the ₹100 crore club worldwide within just two days of its release. The screenplay was written by Murali Gopy, and the film was produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Subaskaran, and Gokulam Gopalan under the banners of Aashirvad Cinemas, Lyca Productions, and Sri Gokulam Movies. The film features a star-studded cast including Mohanlal, Prithviraj, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Game of Thrones fame Jerome Flynn, among others.
