Veteran Malayalam Actor Kaviyoor Ponnamma Passes Away at 79

Kochi,Kerala: Kaviyoor Ponnamma, a renowned veteran actor in Malayalam cinema, passed away at the age of 79 on Friday in a private hospital in Kochi. She was celebrated for her remarkable portrayals of mother figures in over 700 films throughout her illustrious career.

Ponnamma had been undergoing treatment for age-related health issues for almost a month before she passed away. She started her acting career in the early 1960s, gaining recognition for her role as the mother of the late actor Sathyan when she was only 20 years old. Her last film, "Aanum Pennum," which is an anthology featuring three short stories, was released in 2021.

She first stepped onto the theater stage at the age of 14, performing in "Mooladhanam," a play by the esteemed playwright Thoppil Bhasi. Throughout her career, she received the Kerala State Award for Second Best Actress four times, highlighting her significant contributions to the arts.
