AR Murugadoss Reflects on the Failure of Darbar

AR Murugadoss Darbar failure

Despite high expectations, Darbar failed to make a significant impact at the box office. In an interview with Galatta Plus, Murugadoss admitted that overconfidence affected the film's quality. He expressed that he had wrongly assumed he had perfected the writing and filmmaking process with Darbar. I started taking shortcuts and underestimated the complexities involved."

He highlighted the tight schedule they faced, noting, "Rajini sir provided his dates and wanted to start shooting in March. Given the impending monsoon in Mumbai and his plan to launch a political party in August, we had very limited time. I was eager to complete the film, as it was initially meant to be his last before his political entry, and we had to rush everything."

Darbar also featured Nivetha Thomas, Nayanthara, Sunil Shetty, and Yogi Babu in key roles.

Looking ahead, Rajinikanth has decided to step back from politics and is awaiting the release of Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, along with another project, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Meanwhile, Murugadoss produced the 2023 period drama on August 16, 1947, and is set to release Sikander in Eid 2025.
