Is Rajinikanth Set to Retire After His Upcoming Movies?

Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India: Reports from Tamil media suggest that Superstar Rajinikanth might soon take a major step in his film career — retirement. The veteran actor is currently busy with “Jailer 2”, directed by Nelson, and has two more projects lined up. Sources indicate that after completing these films, he may decide to step away from acting. But how true are these claims?

If we look back, Rajinikanth once seemed ready to slow down after his 2010 blockbuster “Robo” (Enthiran). In the years that followed, he delivered several films, though most failed to make an impact at the box office. Even “Robo 2.0” didn’t meet expectations. However, the tremendous success of “Jailer” reignited his passion and energy for cinema.

After “Jailer,” he appeared in films like “Lal Salaam” and “Vettaiyan,” both of which failed to attract audiences. Many expected his recent release “Coolie” to cross the ₹1000 crore milestone, but it reportedly halted at around ₹500 crore worldwide.

Currently, Rajinikanth is working again with director Nelson on “Jailer 2.” Once this is completed, he is expected to collaborate with Kamal Haasan for a multi-starrer, which Nelson might also direct. Additionally, another project under Sundar C’s direction is said to be in the pipeline. After these two movies, industry insiders claim that Rajinikanth plans to retire from films.

Although no official statement has been made, close associates of the actor hint that this could indeed be his final run. By the time these projects wrap up—likely around 2027—Rajinikanth will be nearing an age where retirement might feel natural. Whether or not the superstar truly decides to step back remains to be seen.
