JSK Stopped By Censor Board Over Janaki Controversy
JSK Release Suspended by CBFC Over Use of ‘Janaki’; Filmmakers Await Formal Response as Tensions Grow Around Artistic Freedom and Religious Sensitivities.

The Central Board of Film Certification has stalled the release of JSK – Janaki vs State of Kerala, citing objections to the character name ‘Janaki’, traditionally associated with Goddess Sita. The board raised concerns over its use for a character depicted as a victim of assault, calling it potentially offensive to religious sentiments.
Director Pravin confirmed the delay but offered no further details. FEFKA General Secretary B. Unnikrishnan noted that while a formal notice hasn’t been issued, the board’s stance reflects increasing restrictions on artistic freedom, particularly in naming film characters. The filmmakers are yet to respond officially.
