Kanguva Surges Into 2025 Oscars Race After Initial Setback

"One of the biggest disasters in Tamil cinema last year was 'Kanguva.' This film, starring Suriya and directed by Shiva, was released with high expectations. The movie, however, did not live up to the audience's expectations.Despite being released as a pan-Indian film, 'Kanguva' turned out to be a flop in all languages. But now, the same 'Kanguva' is advancing towards making India proud in the Oscars."

Released in 2024, 'Kanguva,' initially considered one of the biggest flops in Tamil cinema, is now competing for an Oscar. A total of 323 films worldwide are competing for the 2025 Oscars, and 207 of them have made it to the nominations list. Among these, three films from India have made it to the Oscars list. 'Kanguva' is competing in the Best Picture category at the 97th Oscars."

"Other films from India shortlisted for the Oscars 2025 include the Malayalam superhit 'Aadu Jeevitham,' the Tamil film 'Kanguva,' and 'Santosh Swatantra Veer Savarkar.' Additionally, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s production, directed by Kiran Rao, 'Lapata Ladies,' has also made it to the Oscars 2025 race, though it didn’t make it to the shortlist."
