Tamil Film Producers Council Imposes Strict OTT Release Policy

The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has made a sensational move. Recently, no matter how big a star or how anticipated a movie is, it tends to hit OTT platforms within a week, two weeks, or even four weeks after its theatrical release. To counter this trend, TFPC has decided to impose new rules. A meeting held in Chennai on Monday saw the participation of numerous filmmakers, distributors, and exhibitors.

It has been decided that any Tamil film will be permitted to release on OTT only after 8 weeks. Additionally, when selling streaming rights, these should be negotiated for OTT release only after the film has been in theaters for 8 weeks. Furthermore, the TFPC has announced that no new film shoots will commence after August 16. Films currently in production must complete shooting by October 31, and no new shootings will be allowed from November 1.

In related news, the Producers' Council has expressed displeasure with Tamil superstar Dhanush. Dhanush has set certain conditions that TFPC has objected to. They are particularly upset that Dhanush has taken substantial advances from Tamil producers but is giving dates to producers in other languages instead. TFPC has mandated that producers must seek permission to work with Dhanush. It is rumored that similar actions might be taken against Shimbu and Vishal soon. The Nadigar community has strongly opposed this decision, with Nadigar President Nazar expressing outrage at TFPC for making such decisions without consulting Nadigar.
