Veteran actor Mohan Raj, widely recognized for his stage name Keerikkadan Jose, passed away at his home near Kanjiramkulam on Thursday, according to sources in the film industry. He was 70.
Mohan Raj had been receiving treatment for multiple health issues at the time of his death, they said.
He rose to fame with his iconic portrayal of the villain "Keerikkadan Jose" in the Mohanlal-starrer "Kireedam." Over a career spanning more than three decades, Mohan Raj became known for his powerful villainous roles, leaving a lasting impact on Malayalam cinema.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and State Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cheriyan expressed their condolences on his passing.
In an emotional tribute on Facebook, Mohanlal, who played Sethu in Kireedam, wrote that being known and remembered by the name of a character is a rare honor, granted only to artists who have achieved the pinnacle of their craft.
"Our beloved Mohan Raj, who brought the unforgettable character Keerikkadan Jose to life in Kireedam, is no longer with us. I can still vividly recall his commanding presence before the camera, facing Sethu, as if it were yesterday. With a heavy heart, I say goodbye to my dear friend, who embodied humility and kindness in his personal life," Mohanlal shared.
