Akshay Kumar Set to Star in Hindi Version of Telugu Blockbuster 'Sankranthi'

Bollywood Update: Akshay Kumar to Star in Hindi Remake of ‘Sankranthi’

A Hindi adaptation of the popular film Sankranthi is officially in the works, with Akshay Kumar set to play the lead role. The project will be produced by Anees Bazmee, and Akshay is also exploring another Hindi film collaboration with Salman Khan under director Vamsi Paidipally.

Renowned producer and Telangana Film Development Corporation Chairman, Dil Raju, is preparing to make his return to Hindi cinema. The original Telugu film, Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, released during this year’s Sankranthi festival, featured Venkatesh, Aishwarya Rajesh, and Meenakshi Chowdary in pivotal roles. Made on a significant budget, the Telugu version earned around Rs. 300 crore at the box office.

Dil Raju has long envisioned remaking the film for a Hindi-speaking audience with Anil Ravipudi directing. The remake, now officially announced, will be produced by Akshay Kumar and directed by Anees Bazmee, with filming expected to begin in February. Dil Raju explained that Anees Bazmee is adapting the story to resonate with audiences in northern India. Akshay Kumar and Anees Bazmee have previously collaborated successfully on hits like Welcome, Sing Is King, and Thank You.

In addition, Dil Raju is planning another project featuring Salman Khan, directed by Vamsi Paidipally, which could begin shooting next year.

Meanwhile, Dil Raju’s brother and producer Sirish confirmed that his company will release six films in the coming year. Vijay Deverakonda is already producing Rowdy Janardhan, starring himself, and another film with Harshit Reddy is underway. Several other projects are in pre-production. Sirish also revealed plans for a new film with Pawan Kalyan. Despite receiving mixed reviews this year, Sri Venkateswara Creations is gearing up for a strong comeback next year.
