yderabad Court Orders Ban on Using Actor’s Name and Photos Without Consent
Hyderabad, Telangana, India: The Hyderabad City Civil Court has directed that no one is allowed to use Megastar Chiranjeevi’s name, photographs, or voice without his explicit consent. The order follows reports that certain individuals had digitally altered Chiranjeevi’s images using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create obscene videos, which later circulated across various websites and social media platforms.
Upon discovering these fake visuals, Chiranjeevi promptly filed a complaint with Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand and Cyber Crime officials. Acting on his complaint, the Cyber Crime Police registered a case and initiated an investigation. The actor also appealed to government authorities to take strict action against those misusing AI technology to damage his image and reputation through deepfake content.
A few days earlier, Chiranjeevi had approached the civil court after being distressed by these manipulated visuals. The court ruled in his favor, emphasizing that his images or likeness cannot be used for any commercial or unauthorized purpose without permission. The Cyber Crime Police were instructed to enforce restrictions on digital platforms found to be sharing AI-altered content.
Additionally, the court has already issued notices to over 30 individuals involved in spreading false or morphed visuals targeting the actor. Based on the court’s directive, police have registered a formal case and are continuing their investigation.
