Emergency Movie Faces Protests and Controversy in Punjab

Bollywood Queen Kangana Ranaut is always in the news for some reason. She has often been the talk of the town for making direct comments on nepotism in the film industry. She has also been severely critical of young stars and star kids' acting skills. Recently, her movie Emergency has been embroiled in controversy. Even before its release, the film faced many hurdles. The actress had to struggle to get the censor certificate and had to go to court. Now that the movie has been released, it seems like Kangana is facing more challenges.

On January 17, the movie was released with high expectations, but even on the release day, there were protests in several places against the film. In Punjab, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had already announced that they would protest outside theatres if the movie was released. Following the release, Sikhs in Punjab staged protests, particularly in Amritsar, where SGPC members led a major demonstration outside cinemas. SGPC demanded a ban on the movie Emergency and called for the cancellation of all shows in the state. The committee stated that if anything untoward happens, the Punjab government will be held responsible.

Congress MP and Punjab Chief Amarinder Singh Raja stated, "When such movies are made, they distort the facts," and added that without masala, the movie wouldn’t be successful. He criticized the movie for not portraying reality, stating that it was just a script. Last year, Sikh organizations also protested against the Emergency movie trailer. As a result, the censor board withheld the certification until many changes were made to the film, after which it was given the green signal for exhibition.
