Hook Steps Controversy: Women's Commission Takes Action

Songs in movies have always been a major attraction, especially mass songs that draw audiences to theaters. With the introduction of "hook steps," significant changes have been observed in dance movements of heroes and heroines. During the time of Allu Arjun's song Butta Bomma, hook steps were seen as a fun aspect of dance. However, now there is growing criticism that they are becoming too explicit. A recent example is the song Adida Surprise from the movie Robin Hood, where Ketika Sharma's bold dance moves have sparked a debate on social media. Within hours of its release, the song's hook steps were heavily trolled. In response, the Women's Commission has officially intervened, stating that some moments in the song are inappropriate and should be removed, leading to reports that the production team is modifying the controversial steps.

This is not an isolated incident. A similar issue arose in the past with the song Dabidi Dibide from Balakrishna’s film Dacoit Maharaj, where a dance move with Urvashi Rautela faced backlash, prompting the makers to edit it before release. With such incidents recurring, discussions are happening within the industry about choreographers and directors being more cautious. While glamour and mass appeal are essential, crossing a certain limit can lead to audience dissatisfaction. If this trend continues, stricter regulations and censor board restrictions on dance sequences might become inevitable in the future.
