Nayanthara and Dhanush in Legal Battle Over Unauthorized Clip in Documentary

There has been a dispute between Lady Superstar Nayanthara and Tamil star actor Dhanush regarding the documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale. Dhanush had filed a petition in the Madras High Court in November last year, claiming that a three-second clip from his movie Naanu Rowdy Dine was used in the documentary without permission. He filed a lawsuit against Nayanthara and her production company, Rowdy Pictures. However, Netflix challenged Dhanush's lawsuit and filed a petition in the Madras High Court.

What happened was that Nayanthara's journey, including her marriage, was featured in the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale, which is currently streaming on the OTT platform. In the documentary, clips from the movie Naanu Rowdy Dine, which Dhanush produced, were used without permission. Dhanush sent legal notices to Nayanthara’s team, demanding a compensation of ₹10 crores for the unauthorized use of the footage.

After receiving the legal notices, Nayanthara wrote a strongly worded letter criticizing Dhanush. In response, Dhanush filed a lawsuit in the Madras High Court. The court accepted the petition and issued notices to both Nayanthara and Netflix, initiating the legal proceedings.
