Odia Film Industry Mourns the Loss of Legendary Actor Uttam Mohanty

A tragic incident has occurred in the film industry. Prominent Odia actor Uttam Mohanty, aged 66, passed away. He had been suffering from liver cirrhosis for some time and was undergoing treatment at the Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, where he breathed his last on the night of February 27. Following the news of his death, his fans, as well as film personalities and political leaders, have expressed their condolences on social media.

Uttam Mohanty began his cinematic journey in the Odia film industry in 1977 with the movie Abhiman. He rose to fame as a leading actor during the 1980s and 1990s. Over his 50-year career, he acted in more than 135 films, including Odia, Bengali, and Hindi movies. His wife Aparajita and son Babushan are also well-known actors in the Odia film industry.

On hearing about his death, the Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, expressed that Uttam Mohanty's passing is an irreparable loss to the Odia cultural world. Meanwhile, the Odisha government has decided to conduct his last rites with official honors.
