Ram Gopal Varma: I Can’t Direct Chiranjeevi, I Don’t Watch Balakrishna Movies

Controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV), well known to Telugu audiences for his outspoken nature, has once again become a topic of discussion. Although he has mellowed down compared to his earlier days of frequent social-media controversies, his recent interview has stirred fresh debate.

During the interview, Varma made surprising remarks about actors Chiranjeevi and Nandamuri Balakrishna. When asked why he never worked with Chiranjeevi, RGV stated that he does not feel capable of directing a film featuring the megastar. He explained that Chiranjeevi’s style and the expectations of his massive fan base do not align with his cinematic approach. “I don’t think I can make a film with Chiranjeevi, and I don’t want to attempt something I cannot justify,” he said.

Varma also commented on Balakrishna’s movies, revealing that he hasn’t watched the actor’s recent films. “I haven’t followed Balakrishna’s films for many years—probably not in the last two or three decades. They simply don’t match my sensibilities,” he remarked.

These statements have quickly gone viral, with netizens expressing shock over RGV openly commenting on such major Telugu stars. Following his film Shiva, Varma mentioned he is working on a new project and is determined to prove himself again. Whether this marks a strong comeback for him remains to be seen.
