Renu Desai Criticizes Use of 'RIP' for Hindus, Advocates for 'Om Shanti'
Popular actress Renu Desai recently faced a great personal loss as her mother passed away. She was devastated by the loss, and many film personalities, fans, and netizens paid tribute to her mother. However, after sharing the news of her mother's death, many people sent messages with "RIP" or "Rest in Peace." Even friends and close acquaintances expressed their condolences using this term. Renu Desai, however, feels that this is incorrect and shared her thoughts on social media.
In her post, Renu Desai mentioned, "Do not say 'RIP' when Hindus die. 'RIP' means rest for the soul, but according to our Sanatan Dharma, the soul is never alone and does not need rest. Birth and death are part of a continuous cycle. Therefore, we should not use terms like 'RIP' or 'Rest in Peace.' Instead, it is better to say 'Om Shanti' or 'Sadgati.' This is what our Sanatan Dharma teaches us."
Renu further explained that when her mother passed away, many friends and family members conveyed their condolences by saying "May her soul rest in peace" or simply sending "RIP." However, she learned the difference between "RIP" and "Sadgati" from a religious scholar who spoke about Sanatan Dharma rituals. She felt the need to share this with her followers but clarified that her intention was not to disrespect anyone's beliefs. Additionally, it is noteworthy that Renu closed the comment section of her post.
