Roja’s Comeback Film Announced, Khushboo’s Emotional Video Wins Hearts

Many actresses who once ruled the silver screen as leading ladies are now taking on mature and emotional roles — playing mothers, aunts, and other character parts. Instead of stepping away from cinema, they’ve continued to shine in new avatars. Among them is former popular actress Roja Selvamani, who is now preparing for her return to films after nearly 12 years. The makers have officially confirmed her comeback.

Roja will be seen in a new film directed by DD Balachandran and written by Lenin Pandian. Sharing the excitement, actress Khushboo Sundar posted a video on social media, celebrating Roja’s return. The clip featured memorable scenes and songs from Roja’s earlier movies, ending with a glimpse of her new role — a mature character named Santhanam.

The film also features Gangai Amaran, the younger brother of music legend Ilaiyaraaja, in the lead role. Darshan Ganesan, grandson of the legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan, is set to make his acting debut in this project. The movie is being produced under the Satya Jothi Films banner.

Roja’s journey in cinema began unexpectedly. She never initially planned to become an actress. Director A. Sivaprasad, who was scouting for a new heroine for his film Prema Tapassu, visited Roja’s college and came across her photo in an album. Learning that she was Nagaraja Reddy’s daughter — a friend of his — he approached her father, who agreed. That’s how Roja made her debut in films.

Over the years, Roja acted in several successful films across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages before turning her focus to politics. Her last Telugu movie released in 2013, and her final Tamil film came out in 2015. Now, after a long break, she is all set to make her silver screen re-entry. Whether she will also appear in new Telugu films remains to be seen.
