What’s Hidden Behind ‘The Taj Story’? Court in Action

Amid growing debates surrounding “The Taj Story”, the film’s producers have clarified that the movie does not target or offend any religion. They explained that the storyline is inspired by ongoing court cases related to the Taj Mahal. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reviewed all the documents and evidence provided by the filmmakers before granting the censor certificate for release. Meanwhile, Advocate Shakeel Abbas has approached the Delhi High Court by filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a stay order on the film’s release.

The controversy continues as certain members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have voiced objections to the movie. Rajnish Singh, a BJP spokesperson from Ayodhya, has strongly opposed the release. Back in October 2022, Singh had filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court requesting that the 22 sealed rooms of the Taj Mahal be opened to examine whether the monument was constructed over a temple. He also urged the Survey of India to conduct an inquiry to determine the facts. Singh now argues that since “The Taj Story” draws from an ongoing case, the film’s release might interfere with judicial proceedings. On Monday, he filed complaints with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the CBFC, demanding the suspension of the film’s release.

The movie “The Taj Story” features veteran actor Paresh Rawal as a tourist guide and is scheduled to hit theaters this Friday. The courtroom drama delves into the long-standing Taj Mahal controversy and includes performances by Zakir Hussain, Amrita Khanwilkar, Namit Das, Sneha Wagh, Shishir Sharma, and Karmaveer Chaudhary.
