Adah Sharma Discusses The Kerala Story Experience

Adah Sharma recently discussed her experience during the production of The Kerala Story, a film that significantly boosted her career. Released on May 5, 2023, and directed by Sudipto Sen, the film features a cast that includes Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idnani.

In a recent interview with Bharti TV, Adah talked about the challenges faced during filming, such as the backlash prior to its release, which included canceled premieres and limited promotional activities. Despite these obstacles and bans in several states, the film achieved impressive success, grossing around ₹300 crore and becoming one of the highest-grossing films of the year.

Adah emphasized that she did not view the film as political but rather as a story about a girl affected by terrorism. She stated, “When we were making The Kerala Story, I didn’t feel we were being political; it’s about how certain groups are turning girls into suicide bombers, and we are all against terrorism.”

Reflecting on the pre-release criticism, she noted how she was initially reactive but became confident in the film’s impact once it was released, leading to a quieting of critics.

Looking ahead, Adah will star in the web series Reeta Sanyal, directed by Abhirup Ghosh and set to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on October 14, 2024. The series follows Reeta Sanyal, a lawyer who navigates complex legal challenges in both the legal and criminal realms.
