Arijit Singh, one of India’s most celebrated playback singers, has announced his decision to step away from film music, leaving fans and the film industry deeply surprised. The singer made the announcement through an emotional post on Instagram, stating that he would no longer take up new playback singing projects.
At the peak of his illustrious career, Arijit Singh wrote, “I am grateful for the love and affection you have showered on me over the years. I have decided not to take up any new projects as a playback singer anymore. It has been an amazing journey, and God has been very kind to me.” His words quickly sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms.
However, the singer clarified that his decision does not mark an end to his musical journey. Arijit Singh revealed that while he is stepping away from film playback singing, he intends to continue creating independent music as an artist, focusing on more personal and creative projects.
Over the years, Arijit Singh has established a remarkable presence across multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Bengali, Tamil, and Malayalam. His soulful voice has been featured in several popular Telugu songs as well, earning him a strong fan base beyond Bollywood. In recognition of his contribution to Indian music, he was honored with the Padma Shri by the Government of India last year.
Regarding his pending commitments, industry sources suggest that a few projects already recorded by the singer are yet to be released. These songs are expected to be his final appearances as a playback singer in films. Once those releases are completed, Arijit Singh is likely to fully step away from the silver screen and concentrate on his independent musical pursuits.
The sudden announcement by one of the highest-paid and most influential singers in the country has triggered intense discussion within the film and music industry, marking a significant moment in contemporary Indian music.
