Laapataa Ladies is set to be released in Japan
Filmmaker Kiran Rao's critically acclaimed 2024 film Laapataa Ladies is set to make its debut in Japan. Rao shared the thrilling update on Instagram, posting a trailer of the film with Japanese subtitles.
In her post, Rao wrote, "Laapataa Ladies will be showing in Japan starting October 4, 2024! We are thrilled about our theatrical release in Japan by Shochiku. Arigato gozaimasu!" (sic).
Laapataa Ladies tells the story of two newlywed brides, portrayed by Nitanshi Goel and Pratibha Ranta, who are mistakenly swapped on a train. The film, a comedy-drama, critiques patriarchy through its satirical narrative.
Nitanshi expressed her joy in the comments, saying, "Yayyy yayyy!"
Previously, the film was showcased at the Supreme Court as part of a gender sensitization initiative, where it was viewed by judges. The film had a successful theatrical run when it was released on March 1 and gained even more popularity on Netflix, where it set several viewership records.
Produced by Aamir Khan, 'Laapataa Ladies' stars Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam, and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma in key roles. The film is based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami, with screenplay and dialogue by Sneha Desai and additional dialogue by Divyanidhi Sharma.
