Studio Green Thangalaan Kanguva legal dispute
The Madras High Court has instructed Studio Green to pay Rs 1 crore for each of its upcoming films, Thangalaan and Kanguva. The court, led by Justices G. Jayachandran and C.V. Karthikeyan, has mandated that Studio Green deposit Rs 1 crore by August 14 for Thangalaan’s release on August 15. This order stems from a petition filed by the official assignee seeking to recover debts from the late Arjunlal Sunderdas, who had invested Rs 40 crore in Studio Green films but paid only Rs 12.85 crore before withdrawing.
The production house claimed they spent the funds on pre-production and had only managed to repay Rs 2.5 crore, leaving Rs 10.35 crore still owed. Studio Green argued that they had settled the debt through rights to remake three Tamil films and suggested Sunderdas sell these rights. However, the court found insufficient evidence to support this claim and questioned the validity of the alleged agreement and the value of the remake rights.
