Simon Kinberg to Lead New Star Wars Trilogy
Lucasfilm has officially enlisted Simon Kinberg to create a new Star Wars film trilogy, in which he will serve as both writer and producer alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
Though early rumors hinted that the new trilogy might extend the Skywalker Saga with Episodes 10–12, insiders have confirmed it will actually launch a completely new saga. This project will add to other Star Wars films currently being developed by directors like James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi, and Donald Glover. So far, Lucasfilm and Disney have not disclosed specific details about the trilogy.
Kinberg is well-versed in the Star Wars universe, having co-created the popular animated series Star Wars Rebels with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck, which aired from 2014 to 2018. He also served as a consultant for Episode VII: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams.
Beyond Star Wars, Kinberg has extensive experience with major franchises. He spent nearly a decade working on the X-Men films and the Logan spinoff starring Hugh Jackman and directed by James Mangold. His other prominent projects include producing The Martian by Ridley Scott, co-writing Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr., and producing Kenneth Branagh’s Agatha Christie trilogy starting with Murder on the Orient Express.
