Mohanlal's highly anticipated film Barroz hit theatres on December 25, 2024, for Christmas, marking the actor’s directorial debut. A 3D children's fantasy drama, Barroz features Mohanlal in the lead role as a treasure guardian who must pass on a precious treasure to its rightful heir, the descendant of Vasco da Gama.

The film, which has been well-received for its visual appeal, will be available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar after its theatrical run.

Directed by Mohanlal, Barroz also stars Maya Rao West, Cesar Lorente Raton, Ignacio Mateos, and Guru Somasundaram, among others. The technical team includes Santhosh Sivan as the cinematographer, Lydian Nadhaswaram for the music, and Mark Kilian for the background score. The film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas and has received a clean U certificate from the censor board.
