Amazon Cancels OTT Deal for Vijay Jana Nayagan
Amazon Prime Video has reportedly cancelled its ₹120 crore OTT rights deal for Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming political action drama Jana Nayagan due to continued delays in the film’s theatrical release and uncertainty over its final release date.
The digital streaming agreement for Vijay’s highly anticipated film Jana Nayagan has reportedly been cancelled by Amazon Prime Video following continued delays in the film’s theatrical release.
According to industry reports, the streaming platform had previously acquired the film’s post-theatrical digital rights for approximately ₹120 crore. However, the agreement is said to have been withdrawn as the film’s release timeline remains uncertain.
Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth, was originally scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, 2026. The release has reportedly been delayed due to ongoing censorship-related issues and the absence of a confirmed new release date, creating uncertainty around the project’s theatrical rollout.
The film holds significant importance in the Tamil film industry, as it is widely expected to be Vijay’s final film before fully transitioning into politics. The actor, who recently launched his political party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, has already indicated plans to gradually step away from cinema to focus on political activities.
Due to its political theme and the actor’s growing involvement in public life, Jana Nayagan has emerged as one of the most talked-about Tamil film projects in recent years.
While the makers have not officially confirmed the status of the OTT deal, industry sources suggest that the cancellation reflects the growing importance of clear theatrical release timelines for digital streaming agreements in the current film distribution ecosystem.
