Actor Karthi enjoys a strong fan base in both Tamil and Telugu markets, with most of his films usually releasing simultaneously in the two languages. However, his recent film Vaathiyar initially had a limited release primarily in Tamil, which led to confusion among Telugu audiences.

The film remained in production for nearly two to three years before finally reaching theaters. According to earlier reports, Vaathiyar was originally scheduled to release on December 5 last year. However, the release was delayed after a financier filed a legal case against producer Gnanavel Raja over pending payments. The court reportedly directed that the film could only be released after the dues were cleared.

Following this development, the makers arranged the payment under compulsion, but by then the planned December release window had already passed. Eventually, the film hit theatres in Tamil Nadu on January 14 after the postponement of Jana Nayagan. Unfortunately, the movie received negative reviews right from its opening shows.

Within two weeks of its theatrical release, Vaathiyar began streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The film was made available in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.

However, the Telugu version faced criticism from viewers because it reportedly used the same print prepared for the Tamil version. As a result, certain scenes displayed visuals related to MGR while the dialogues referred to NTR, which created confusion among Telugu audiences.

Taking note of the feedback, the makers have now prepared a corrected version specifically for Telugu viewers. The updated print, featuring appropriate visuals and references, is scheduled to stream on OTT starting Friday, March 6.

Despite the revised release, industry observers believe the impact may remain limited, as the film has already completed its primary streaming run.
