Thangalaan, the Tamil action-adventure film directed by Pa. Pa. Ranjith's film will debut on Netflix on September 20, 2024. The Tamil action-adventure, produced by Studio Green, Neelam Productions, and Jio Studios, features a stellar cast including Vikram, Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Daniel Caltagirone, Pasupathy, Hari Krishnan Anbudurai, and Sampath Ram. The movie, set during the British Raj, follows a tribal leader who helps a British general search for gold while battling a powerful sorceress.

Film Details:

Originally announced as Chiyaan 61 in December 2021, the film was renamed Thangalaan in October 2022. Filming took place in Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Madurai, and Karnataka, wrapping up in July 2023. The movie had its theatrical release on August 15, 2024, in both standard and 3D formats. Netflix acquired the film’s streaming rights for ₹35 crore.

Premise:

Set in the British Raj era, Thangalaan features a tribal leader and his community aiding Lord Clement, a British general, in his quest for gold. Their assistance provokes the wrath of Aarathi, a sorceress, compelling Thangalaan to confront her.

The film’s cinematography is by A. Kishor Kumar, editing by Selva RK, and the soundtrack by G. V. Prakash Kumar is making his debut collaboration with Ranjith while marking his third partnership with Vikram.
