The latest film 'Thug Life,' a collaboration between Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, starring Simbu in a key role along with heroines Trisha and Abhirami, was released today (June 5) amid high expectations. However, the film has received mixed reactions from the audience. While Mani Ratnam had given Kamal a blockbuster like 'Nayakudu' in the past, many feel this time the story did not meet that standard. Since this is the first Kamal-Mani Ratnam collaboration in 38 years, there were big expectations on 'Thug Life.' Many OTT platforms competed for the rights, and finally Netflix acquired them at a hefty price. It is reported that Netflix paid around ₹149 crores for the OTT rights. Additionally, Star Vijay TV reportedly purchased the satellite rights for about ₹60 crores, according to Tamil media reports.

Netflix has bought the digital rights with an agreement to stream the movie only after 8 weeks from its theatrical release. Based on this, the movie is expected to come to OTT in the first week of August. However, to celebrate Indian Independence Day, Netflix is reportedly planning to release the film on August 7 as a special gift to the audience.
