Varun Tej's new gangster period action film, Matka, hit theaters worldwide on November 14.The actor, who has faced a string of flops, is hoping for a big success with this movie. For Matka, Varun Tej underwent a significant transformation to match the retro theme and period setting. The movie stars Meenakshi Chaudhary as the female lead and is based on the life of gambler Ratan Khetri. Directed by Karuna Kumar, who made his debut with Palasa, Matka had a reported budget of Rs 50 Crore. The movie is set in the time frame from 1958 to 1982 and is based in Vishakhapatnam. Initially, the film was supposed to be titled Bracket, as that is the popular name for the game.

The digital streaming rights for Matka have been acquired by Amazon Prime Video. The movie has already secured its streaming platform before the theatrical release.
