The film The Raja Saab, starring Prabhas, was released in theatres on January 9, aligning with the Sankranthi festival season. Directed by Maruthi, the movie was positioned as a horror comedy blended with psychological thriller elements. Featuring three female leads and high glamour appeal, the film carried significant expectations ahead of its release.

However, the theatrical response fell short of expectations. Neither the comedy nor the horror aspects resonated strongly with audiences, while the psychological narrative also failed to create the intended impact. In addition, viewers reportedly did not connect with the portrayal of Prabhas in a fear-driven role, which further affected the film’s reception. As a result, The Raja Saab underperformed at the box office.

Following its theatrical run, the film’s digital streaming rights have now been finalised. Unlike many major releases, the OTT rights were reportedly not sold prior to release. Streaming platform Jio Hotstar has acquired the OTT rights for an estimated Rs 80 crore. Notably, this deal covers all language versions of the film.

While the amount may appear modest for a Prabhas-led project, trade analysts suggest it is reasonable given the film’s box-office outcome. The OTT sale has reportedly provided partial relief to the producers. The film’s total budget is estimated to be around Rs 400 crore, and industry calculations circulating on social media suggest losses exceeding Rs 150 crore. If accurate, this would place The Raja Saab among the biggest financial setbacks in recent Indian cinema. However, these figures remain unofficial and have not been independently confirmed.
