The character of Shehnaz is portrayed by Dia Mirza.The story unfolds after Shehnaz Parveen accidentally crossed the India-Pakistan border when she tried to commit suicide and was swept away by a river. She was arrested and declared an illegal immigrant in India. Her life turned tragic when she was jailed under harsh conditions.

While in prison, Shehnaz was allegedly raped and later gave birth to a daughter named Mobin. After spending several years in Indian jail, she was finally deported to Pakistan in the year 2003. The series sheds light on her painful and emotional journey.
