Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 Sparks Legal Controversy with Early OTT Debut
Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 is facing legal issues after allegedly breaching mandated streaming timelines.

The Multiplex Association of India claims the film, released on July 12, made its OTT debut on August 9, violating the required eight-week window. The association's rules state that films must wait eight weeks before streaming to be featured in top multiplex chains like PVR Inox and Cinepolis.
The Hindi version of Indian 2, released on Netflix earlier than the mandated date, has caused disappointment among exhibitors. The film was expected to stream on September 6 but appeared on the platform a month earlier.
Directed by Shankar, Indian 2 serves as the sequel to the 1996 film Indian. It stars Kamal Haasan, Samuthirakani, Bobby Simha, Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, and Priya Bhavani Shankar. Produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies with a budget of Rs 150 crore, the film's music is by Anirudh Ravichander. A third part of the franchise is also confirmed.
