Dhurandhar OTT Telugu Review: The film Dhurandhar, which enjoyed an impressive theatrical run for nearly two months, has now made its debut on OTT platforms. While the film was released only in Hindi in theatres, its OTT release includes Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions. Following this release, the response from Telugu audiences has been mixed, sparking discussions across social media and film circles.

Unlike conventional spy thrillers that follow a familiar template, Dhurandhar stands out for its realistic treatment and intense narrative set against the backdrop of Pakistan. For many viewers, this grounded approach offered a refreshing cinematic experience. While Ranveer Singh’s portrayal of Hamza remains central to the story, Akshaye Khanna’s performance as Rahman Dacoit has drawn widespread appreciation. Supporting roles by Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and R. Madhavan, which received strong reactions during the theatrical run, continue to be regarded as major strengths of the film.

However, reactions from Telugu audiences watching the film on OTT have varied. In the South, mass-oriented action films with high elevations such as Pushpa and KGF have set certain expectations. Dhurandhar, in contrast, focuses on realistic action and narrative depth rather than exaggerated fight sequences. While some viewers did not find the film’s three-and-a-half-hour runtime an issue—especially since it is divided into eight chapters—others felt the storyline did not offer enough novelty compared to previously seen action dramas.

Director Aditya Dhar weaves several real-life incidents into the film, including the Kandahar hijacking, the Parliament attack, and the Mumbai Taj Hotel terror attack. Audiences familiar with these events found the film more engaging and impactful. However, those unaware of these historical references reportedly found certain portions difficult to fully grasp.

The Telugu dubbing has received positive feedback, with many viewers appreciating its natural tone and lack of artificiality. The decision to retain the songs in Hindi has also been welcomed, as dubbing them might have altered the film’s overall impact. Netflix initially faced criticism over colour grading differences between the theatrical print and the OTT version. Following audience feedback, adjustments were reportedly made to improve both colour balance and sound quality.

Another aspect that has impressed Telugu viewers is the film’s production design. Many have expressed curiosity about the shooting locations, particularly the recreation of Karachi’s Lyari area. The makers reportedly constructed the entire set on a large plot of land in Thailand. Overall, the film’s performances, action sequences, music and locations are being cited as key positives.

While the first part of Dhurandhar released only in Hindi in theatres, the makers have confirmed that the sequel, scheduled for release on March 19, will arrive in theatres simultaneously in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.
